Family, Agility & CGC!

Erik and Kristen were here for a visit and we loved having them home! During their stay Siena and I had a 2 day local agility trial (YGRC). It was fun to have them watch us at a trial for the first time! Siena did well earning her second Excellent Standard leg with a 1st place. Truly made her debut and did a fantastic job. No qualifying runs but I was happy with her speed, and willingness to get back in the game when certain distractions got the better of her. That same weekend Truly's brother, Teller, (Can CH SunKissed Light and Magic CD RN NA NAP OAJ NJP CCA CGC CGN ) earned his first CDX leg at the Scenic Cluster in Vermont!

On July 14th six month old Zap-A-Roo Puppy Doo passed his Canine Good Citizens test with flying colors! I am so proud of him and look forward to many more achievements....he is brilliant!

Agility News

This past weekend Siena and I competed at the Mayflower Corgi Agility Trial at American K9 Country. Both runs on Saturday were very nice. Our first run of the day (Ex JWW) was beautiful until I pulled Siena off a jump in the corner. Julie's words echoed in my head afterwards.....support with your upper body while your feet continue to MOVE! Siena needs that support and I always seem to forget that (even in class yesterday ;) Her weaves were spot on though! Our next run in Ex Standard was good; however, she missed her weave entry from the A-Frame (I babysat her entry instead of trusting her) and she also popped out towards the end of the poles. I was happy with the day and enjoyed a nice BBQ at home with Bob that evening. Day 2 was AWESOME!!! We had our first Q in Ex Standard....hip, hip HOORAY! Earned a 1st place and she was 18 sec. under standard course time. Last run of the day was in Ex JWW....our first time in the "B" class. Not only did we Q but we also got 4th place (10 sec. under course time ;) We celebrated Sunday evening with a special dinner, filet mignon, and ice cream for dessert! Since it was a local trial Bob was able to attend both days and he was able to see us qualify......I loved having him there. A brag for Zap and Truly's brother Teller from the Mayflower agility trial:
Teller finished his OAJ title! http://k9data.com/pedigree.asp?ID=244488
Congratulations to Teller and Erica they are a fantastic team!

This weekend is the Yankee GRC trial. Truly will make her agility debut. I had no doubt she was ready until our awful class yesterday. She was distracted (not like her) and refused to jump the double. I took her outside and she pooped immediately....I had no idea she had to go that badly since I took her out right before Siena's class. No wonder she wasn't herself. I took her back into the ring after Zap's class and we had a great 15 minutes of jumps, tunnels and weaves. She was back to her happy, focused speedy self....whew! The best part about this coming trial is that Erik is home and will be able to come watch Siena and Truly for the first time ;-)

Zap had a fantastic week. Tuesday we did a run thru for his upcoming CGC test. He did beautifully and I couldn't be prouder. His 3 minute out of sight down stay and meet and greets were particularly impressive. Our test is this Tuesday then on to attention class. Agility class with him was a ton of fun yesterday. I just love his attitude and he always makes me smile. I do have to work more on "get in" with him on my right side. I admit that I work with him on my left too much.

Apollo is at "Camp Kara" getting ready for the VT cluster this weekend. We will be cheering for him in spirit since the agility trial conflicted with the VT shows. Be a good boy for Kara Apollo-Man!!

Having family home is the best!

Catching Up and Big Changes...

So much has happened! First of all happy be-lated 6 month birthday to Zap (6/24). I posted a few pictures of him at 5 months old (still have to do his official 6 month old pics) Zap is in week 5 of his CGC classes at AK9C. He is so smart and I am amazed at his out of sight sit and down stays. Even his meet and greets are improving (something we have worked very hard on.....wiggle, wiggle, jump, jump ;-). Zap will make his conformation debut this summer. I can't wait to see this wiggle butt puppy hold still for the judges exam!

Apollo is now Can Ch. SunKissed In Keeping Secrets! He finished his championship in 2 weekends.....beautifully groomed and handled by his co-owner Kara of SunKissed Goldens. Thank you Kara! Apollo and I are currently working together in basic obedience classes. I believe he will be my new therapy dog to honor Molly and to carry on her memory in that field. He will be shown in conformation selectively in the U.S. as he matures.

Siena had an outstanding agility weekend the beginning of June. Her last run of the weekend was fast and clean. We reconnected and are looking forward to a busy July packed full of trials. The obedience bug has bitten me again and we are back to focusing on working towards those CDX and UD titles. I'm trying to fit in as many obedience classes as I can this summer. Also, I am planning on attending a seminar in August.

Truly is making her AKC agility debut in July! She is showing a lot of speed during class and I can't wait to see how we do as a team during a trial. I've decided to hold off taking her out in obedience until she is trained through Utility. We are going to head up to Canada in August for some conformation shows. I just want her to have fun since she hasn't shown in conformation in quite a while. On top of all this training and showing we are planning to breed our beautiful, multi-talented girl this fall or spring depending on timing. Truly is going to be our foundation bitch and we are beyond excited to have our first TruHeart litter!!

Max, now 7 1/2 years old is our house dog and seems to prefer it that way. Although he doesn't attend classes or shows he still remembers all of his utility signals and is the best at retrieving bumpers and all the drills I learned during my field training sessions. He still has the most coat I've ever seen on a golden and I swear grooming him should be considered a full time job!

The BIG change is that we are moving to Georgia in September. It's hard leaving my family and friends but I know it's for a great reason.

Today is bittersweet....so much to look forward to and at the same time thougts turn to the past.... it's exactly 6 months since dad passed away. I miss him so much. Thinking about my dad goes hand in hand with remembering Molly. We've been without her for 2 months now. I lit 2 candles this morning and with subtle sound of the soft rain in the back ground shed a few tears.

Onward to the future....

WHY??

That's what I woke up thinking about this morning. Why did we lose our beautiful, young Molly girl? I suppose I'm working my way through the grieving process....although it's hard to access that when your heart is broken. At the same time the hurt is still so raw and at the surface I am also feeling angry. We took such good care of Moll. Check ups, top notch dog food, exercise (she was my best walking partner), groomed her on a daily basis checking her for ticks, lumps or anything out of the ordinary. I don't get it! Why did this happen? Why is Erik not going to have his best friend greet him at the door when he gets home from college? Why is she not cuddling up to me right now? Her coat so soft and silky against my skin. I want her back, I want her liquid brown eyes to stare at me again begging for a piece of cheese. I want to see that look of disapproval in her eyes when they rest of the goldens are playing too rough, in her opinion, and I should "fix" that before she has to!

I look at my other dogs and wonder when they will leave me. It's more than I can bear right now. I don't want Molly to be forgotten, I can't let her 4 short years on this earth just disappear. Life moves on I know that, but I don't want to forget what it felt like to hold her in my arms . I don't want to forget how she pestered me to put my sneakers on while getting ready for our walks. I don't want to forget how my neighbors commented on "what a beautiful dog she is" each day when we walked by their house. I don't want to forget what it was like to watch her trot across the backyard with her coat glistening in the sun....breathtaking.

The relief after her surgery when the pathology report came back from all the biopsies....no cancer.... was a high point. After all the diagnostics were finally done I thought we were on the right track treating her for inflammatory bowel disease, but she wasn't improving. So much vomiting, so much weight loss. We were going to try other meds, different food and I was going to take her back to the specialist. The internist was very concerned that she wasn't improving and was suspicious something else was going on... then the seizures started. Those violent, horrific seizures. I knew it was bad and I knew I was losing her. Four months to the day from my dad's passing I held our beloved Molly in my arms and watched her close her eyes for the last time... all the while telling her how much she was loved.

WHY??!
